“Calm Down” by Rema becomes the first African song to reach one billion streams in the US.

With his famous song “Calm Down,” popular Nigerian artist Rema creates history by being the first African song to reach one billion on-demand plays in the US.

An American music statistics organization called Chart Data claims that “Calm Down” has received over one billion on-demand plays in the US.

“REMA’s ‘Calm Down’ becomes the first Afrobeats song in history to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US,” stated Chart Data in a post published on the X platform. It’s important to remember that Selena Gomez’s remix of “Calm Down” became the first African song to reach the billion-stream milestone on Spotify in August 2023.

Furthermore, Guinness World Records certified the original version of “Calm Down” as the world’s first number-one song on the MENA streaming chart.
