1. The leadership of the Progressive Congress Northeastern Youth and Stakeholders Forum has threatened to withdraw support for the APC vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima. At a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, the group pledged to withdraw support for the former Borno state governor for repeatedly undermining his efforts.
2. Kaduna State Deputy Speaker Isaac Auta Zankai and State Constituency Member Zaria Suleiman Dabo leave the All Radical Congress to join the State Labor Party. The Vice President represents the Kauru State constituency in the State Parliament.
3. Struggling Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele is said to have returned to his home country on Wednesday amid growing rumors that he will be arrested by the Department of State Services. Emefiele left the country within weeks of an investigation into a number of allegations against him, including corruption and terrorist financing.
4. The division-level police officer in charge of Pankshin Division, Pankshin Local Government Area in Highland State was kidnapped by gunmen. The development was confirmed on Thursday evening.
6. Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has said that Nigerians should not vote for a sick person to be the country’s next president in the upcoming presidential election. He said this at his alma mater, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN), Enugu State on Thursday.
7. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has committed to sanction any commercial banks that hoard new naira banknotes from the public. Apex bank said from Thursday it will start monitoring commercial banks to find out which banks are not giving new naira to customers.
8. Frank Geng Quangrong, a Chinese national, told the Kano High Court on Thursday that he was trying to save his life when he accidentally stabbed his late Nigerian mistress Ummukulsum Sani Buhari to death. Frank spoke through an interpreter during his testimony in court presided over by Judge Sanusi Ado Ma’aji.
9. The Labor Party said the arrest of its former Presidential Campaign Council chief executive, Dr Doyin Okupe, by security officers at Lagos airport was an attempt to embarrass him. LP’s chief spokesman, Dr Tanko Yunusa, said Dr Okupe’s captors had nothing to do with him, they “just wanted to humiliate him, which is unfortunate”.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday warned foreign nations to stay away from elections in Nigeria. The President issued the warning Thursday while receiving credentials from the Ambassadors of Sweden, Switzerland, the Republic of Ireland, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of South Sudan in Abuja.
