The federal government has reduced the number of directors applying for the position of chief accountant in the country to seven.

Seven finalists were selected from among 20 directors previously selected by the Anti-Corruption Authority to compete for the vacancy.
In the first test conducted on 20 directors selected by the federation civil service office, 10 failed.
They scored less than 50 percent, leaving the other 10 who passed the race.
On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 10 qualified directors entered the second round of the information and communication technology (ICT) knowledge test. Three coaches failed this test, leaving seven coaches in the race.
The seven remaining in the race took part in the final phase of the exam, an oral interview, last Thursday.

The under-listed candidates are invited to the oral interview stage of the process of appointing a substantive Accountant-General of the Federation following their successful performance in Stages I and 2 of the exercise,” a circular dated January 25, 2023, and signed by Dr Ernest Umakhikhe on behalf of the examination committee read.
The oral interview conducted last Thursday marked the end of the process leading to the appointment of the new Accountant-General.
It is expected that the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation will announce the winner of the oral interview as the new Accountant-General any time from now.
The PUNCH had earlier reported how the nation’s anti-graft agencies cleared 20 directors drawn from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies to take part in the process leading to the filling of the vacancy.
The vacancy followed the arrest of former AGF, Ahmed Idris, in July 2022, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the alleged misappropriation of N109bn and his subsequent suspension and prosecution. 20 selected candidates who participated in the course: Danladi Comfort, Gombe (interior); Mohammed Yar’Abba, Sokoto (Fire Department); Mufutau Bukola, Eto (transport); Mahmoud Kambari, Borno (Northeast Development Commission); Mohammed Dojo, Gombe (Interior); Waziri Samuel, Borno (agriculture and rural development).
Other – Maiden’s Disease, Ogun (OHCSF); Adaramoe Oluwole, trees (humanitarian issues); Isa Abubakar, Yobe (Science, Technology and Innovation); Ogunsemovo Olakunle, Ogun (environmental); Old Charity, Edo (NFF); Ibrahim Jibo, Kano (Border Commission); Ogbodo Meat, Enugu (National Commission on Wages, Revenues and Wages); and Bakare Julianna, Ekiti (NPF).
